Lauren Hope

Junior

Los Osos,CA

#28 Outfield

2009: .274

2008: .354

Lauren's batting average dropped in 2009 (she was leading the team until a late season slump) when she became the Griffs' leadoff hitter, but she was still productive and I look for that average to rebound in 2010. Lauren led the team in stolen bases again, and set an all-time Canisius record in the process (currently at 61). She hit for 6 doubles, 5 triples, and one inside the park homer. She was named to the All-MAAC 2nd Team. Lauren is the fastest player on the team, and is always a threat to steal a base. She is also a very strong competitor and should be stepping into a greater leadership role. Her play in the outfield is also very good.

Lauren started all 53 games as a freshman and was honored as the MAAC rookie of the year. She had a .354 hitting average and set a school record for stolen bases in a season (40). She was 6th in Division 1 softball in steals per game average. She had 3 stolen bases in a game twice last season. She hit .546 in the MAAC tournament, and had a 3 for 3 game against Hofstra in the NCAA tournament. She was named All MAAC 2nd team and All MAAC Tournament team. Wow! All in her freshman season.

Lauren played at Morro Bay High School and was named Athlete Of The Year there, and also was named 3 time All League and All County during her High School career.
